Some karna fans are spreading wrong information about Pashupatastra.In this thread we shall be exposing it.

POWER OF PASHUPATASTRA-

PASHUPATASTRA IS THE MOST DESTRUCTIBLE ARROW,WHICH IS CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THE THREE WORLDS AS TOLD BY MAHADEV,ARJUN AND EVEN KARNA AGREED WITH THIS FACT.

WHAT ARJUN SAID ABOUT PASHUPATASTRA-

Narrative:

“that weapon of terrific prowess which destroyeth, at the end of the Yuga the entire universe--that weapon by the help of which, O god of gods, I may under thy grace”

Narrative:

“But, O son of Pritha, this weapon should not be hurled without adequate cause; for if hurled at any foe of little might it may destroy the whole universe. In the three worlds with all their mobile and immobile creatures, there is none who is incapable of being slain by this weapon.”

SO AS PER MAHADEV,PASHUPATASTRA WAS CAPABLE OF DESTROYING WHOLE UNIVERSE.MAHADEV ALSO SAID THAT THERE IS NO ONE IN THE THREE WORLDS WHO COULD RESIST THIS WEAPON.

SO EVEN KARNA ACCEPTED THE FACT THAT PASHUPATASTRA WAS CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THE THREE WORLDS.

PASHUPATASTRA WAS PERHAPS THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE WEAPON OF THAT TIME,INDEED CAPABLE OF DESTROYING THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE,AND ARJUN COULD HAVE ENDED THE WAR IN A MINUTE USING THIS WEAPON.

MISCONCEPTIONS REGARDING PASHUPATASTRA-

1)DRONACHARYA HAD PASHUPATASTRA

EXPLANATION:

Its mentioned in Mahabharat,drona using ‘Pasupata weapon’ which Arjun baffled.Let me tell you,Mahadev is also called ‘Pashupati nath’,this ‘Pasupata weapon’ was some other weapon of Mahadev(Maybe with a different Presiding deity),After Trident,Pashupatastra is the most powerful weapon of Mahadev.And After Pashupatastra comes ‘Raudrastra’ and ‘Maheshwarastra’.
The weapon used by Drona was of lower power than Raudrastra and Maheshwarastra,that's why it was easily baffled by Arjun.

AS TOLD BY MAHADEV HIMSELF,NO ONE APART FROM ARJUN HAD PASHUPATASTRA,SO DRONA HAVING THAT WEAPON IS NOT POSSIBLE

Narrative:

“Neither the chief himself of the gods, nor Yama, nor the king of the Yakshas, nor Varuna, nor Vayu, knoweth it. How could men know anything of it?”

SO ITS CLEAR THAT ONLY ARJUN POSSESED PASHUPATASTRA,NEITHER INDRA,NOR YAMA,NOR KING OF YAKSHAS,NOR VARUN,NOR VAYU,NOR ANY HUMAN KNEW THIS WEAPON,SO GURU DRONA DID’NT HAD THIS WEAPON.

2)MEGHNAD USED PASHUPATASTRA AGAINST LAXMAN BUT IT FAILED

EXPLANATION:

Its a popular folklore shown in TV serial Ramayan by Ramanand Sagar.He Shows that Meghnath used Brahmastra,Pashupatastra,Narayanastra on Laxman one after the other,but they refused to even touch him.

The fact is,Meghnad never used these weapons against Laxman,Its nowhere written in Valmiki Ramayan.Meghnad used Raudrastra on Laxman but that was to nullify some weapon.
Later Laxman used Maheshwarastra to baffle Asurastra of Meghnad.Pashupatastra was never used in that battle.

Conclusion:PASHUPATASTRA WAS NOT USED IN MEGHNAD-LAXMAN DUELS.

3)ARJUN USED PASHUPATASTRA TO SLAY JAYADRATH

EXPLANATION:

It is a very big misconception spread by Star Plus Mahabharat and some other sources as well.

A simple explanation is - If Pashupatastra is used to slay a lesser enemy,it would destroy the entire universe,as told by Mahadev himself.Jayadrath was no match for Arjun,a lesser warrior,so Arjun couldn’t have used it on Jayadrath.

Narrative:

AS YOU CAN SEE,MAHADEV WARNED ARJUN NOT TO USE PASHUPATASTRA ON A WEAKER ENEMY,ELSE IT WOULD DESTROY WHOLE UNIVERSE,SO USAGE OF PASHUPATASTRA ON JAYADRATH DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE

Krishna said to Arjun that if he remembers Pashupatastra,he would be able to Slay Jayadrath.He said this because of the boon that Jayadrath got from Mahadev.However it does not required to use Pashupatastra on Jayadrath.Only the knowledge of Pashupatastra was required during Jayadrath vadh,not its usage.

THE WEAPON NAME IS NOT MENTIONED IN MAHABHARAT WITH WHICH ARJUN KILLED JAYADRATH

Narrative:

Hearing these words (of Krishna), Dhananjaya, licking the corners of his mouth, quickly shot that arrow which he had taken up for Jayadratha's slaughter, that arrow, viz., whose touch resembled that of Indra's thunder, which was inspired with mantras and converted into a celestial weapon, which was capable of bearing any strain, and which had always been worshipped with incense and garlands.

AS MENTIONED,THAT WEAPON RESEMBLED INDRA’S THUNDER,AND PASHUPATASTRA IS NOT A THUNDER WEAPON,SO THIS WEAPON COULD MOST LIKELY BE A WEAPON OF INDRA LIKE ANJALIKA OR MAHENDRASTRA.

MAIN REASON IS THAT PASHUPATASTRA COULD NOT HAVE BEEN HURLED ON A WEAKER ENEMY,A WARRIOR LIKE JAYADRATH DID’NT REQUIRED TO BE KILLED WITH A WEAPON LIKE PASHUPATASTRA.
