PART 1)KARNA'S FAILURE AT DRAUPADI'S SWYAMWAR(FROM 16 DIFFERENT SOURCES,INCLUDING SANSKRIT EDITIONS,HINDI EDITIONS,ENGLISH EDITIONS,SUMMARIES AND OPINIONS OF EXPERTS)

ALRIGHT GUYS,ITS A BIG #MISCONCEPTION THAT DRAUPADI CALLED KARNA A#SUTPUTRA AND STOPPED HIM FROM PARTICIPATNG.

THE FACT IS,DRAUPADI DID NOT CALL KARNA A SUTPUTRA,INSTEAD HE WAS ALLOWED TO TAKE PART,BUT HE FAILED IN THE TASK.

AS USUAL,WE WOULD BE EXPOSING IT FROM THE MOST AUTHENTIC SOURCES OF MAHABHARAT

----------------------------------------------------------------

A)PROOF FROM SANSKRIT EDITION OF MAHABHARAT(ON SACRED-TEXTS)

Adi Parva Chapter 179,

TRANSLATION:

How can a weak brahmin string the bow which powerful warriors like Karna and Salya and others endued with might and accomplished in the science and practice of arms could not?

SO IT PROVES THAT KARNA FAILED IN SWAYAMWAR,DRAUPADI STOPPING HIM BY CALLING A SUTAPUTRA IS NOT WRITTEN ANYWHERE IN SANSKRIT EDITION.

------------------------------------------------------------

B)PROOFS FROM GEETA PRESS EDITION

I have uploaded the screenshots from Geeta Press and shared the links of those images. Those who understand hindi or sanskrit,Please open the links and check yourself(CONTENT HIGLIGHTED IN RED)

-----------

Proof 1)AS PER GEETA PRESS-"THE BOW WHICH RUKMI,SUNITH,VAKRA,#KARNA,DURYODHAN,SHALYA,SALVA ETC WERE UNABLE TO STRING EVEN AFTER GREAT EFFORTS,ARJUN DID THAT WITH EASE"

(PROVES KARNA FAILED)

------------

Proof 2)AS PER GEETA PRESS-"WHEN ARJUN WAS ABOUT TO LIFT THE BOW,SOME CLEVER BRAHMINS SAID AMOUNG THEMSELVES-WHEN STRONG WARRIORS LIKE #KARNA AND SALYA FAILED,HOW COULD A WEAK BRAHMIN KID STRING THAT BOW"

(PROVES KARNA FAILED)

------------

Proof 3)EVEN THE AUTHOR OF GEETA PRESS WROTE A FOOTNOTE THAT KARNA SUCCEEDING AT SWAYAMWAR IS NOWHERE MENTIONED IN DAKSHINATYA,BHANDARKAR(BORI) AND NEELKANTH EDITION,INSTEAD ITS WRITTEN THAT KARNA FAILED.

C)PROOF FROM C.Rajagopalachari's(RAJAJI'S TRANSLATION)

Narrative:

"When Karna came forward, all the assemblage expected that he would be successful but he failed by just a hair's breadth and the string slid back flashing and the mighty bow jumped out of his hands like a thing of life."

(THIS ALSO PROVES KARNA FAILED)

About C.Rajagopalachari-

C.Rajagopalachari needs no introduction.A freedom fighter, social activist, writer, translator & a Bharat Ratna winner,Rajaji was the last Governor General of India.I would just like you all to go through the his biography in brief:

As of 2001, the literary works of Rajaji like Mahabharata & Ramayana had sold over a million copies!!

D)PROOF FROM DAKSHINATYA KUMBAKONAM EDITION OF MAHABHARAT-

ततो वैकर्तनः कर्णो वृषा वै सूतनन्दनः।

TRANSLATION:

Then the exultant Karna, the son of sun and also the son of suta, came to the vicinity of the bow, strung and mounted the arrow and discharged and missed by one hair-width. Karna, who is famous for strength in three worlds, was also vanquished by this test of
bow. All the kings were frightened by this defeat of Karna in the test of bow.

SO AS PER THE DAKSHINATYA EDITON OF MAHABHARAT ALSO KARNA FAILED.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

E)PROOFS FROM M.V. SUBRAMANIAN'S SUMMARY OF MAHABHARAT-

AADI PARVA SAPTAMAASAASVAASA(CHAPTER SEVEN):

The Svayamvara function started. All the kings, one by one, were coming and going. Nobody was able even to lift that mighty bow, leave alone hitting Matsya Yantra. Mighty Personalities like #Salya and #Karna also failed to hit Matsya Yantra.

Arjuna rose to his feet and walked towards the stage where the bow was kept. All the Brahmins gathered there surprised to see a Brahmin (Arjuna) going to hit Matsya Yantra. “Mighty Warriors like #Karna and #Salya could #not #hit Matsya Yantra. Why this rahmin youth is going there?

ITS CLEARLY MENTIONED THAT KARNA AND SALYA FAILED,NO MENTION OF DRAUPADI CALLING KARNA A SUTPUTRA ANYWHERE.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

F)PROOF FROM BORI CRITICAL EDITION-

Adi Parva Chapter 179 Shloka 4 -

यत्कर्णशल्यप्रमुखैः पार्थिवैर्लोकविश्रुतैः |
नानतं बलवद्भिर्हि धनुर्वेदपरायणैः ||४||

IT MEANS EVEN ARCHERS LIKE KARNA AND SALYA FAILED TO STRING THE BOW.

(AGAIN PROVES KARNA FAILED AND NO MENTION OF DRAUPADI CALLING KARNA A SUTA)

-------------------------------------------------------------

G)PROOF FROM MAHABHARAT TATPARYA NIRNAYA-

EVEN AS PER MADHVACHARYA COMMENTRY(MBTN),KARNA CAME VERY CLOSE TO STRING THE BOW,BUT TOOK A BLOW FROM THAT BOW AND FAILED(DRAUPADI DIDN'T CALL HIM SUTPUTRA)

CHAPTER 19(PandavarAjyalAbhaH) SLOKA 128

H)PROOF FROM SOUTH INDIAN RECENSION OF MAHABHARAT BY P.P.S. SASTRI-

TRANSLATION:

Then Karna, the Son of Sun and also the Son of Suta came near the bow.Strung and mounted it,discharged the arrow, but missed the target by one hair width.Karna who was famous for his strength in the three worlds also failed in this test of bow.All kings were frightened on the defeat of Karna.

HOPE ITS CLEAR NOW,THE SOUTH INDIAN RECENSION OF MAHABHARAT CLEARLY DESCRIBES THE FAILURE OF KARNA IN DRAUPADI SWAYAMWAR AND NOWHERE WRITTEN THAT DRAUPADI STOPPED HIM.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I)PROOF FROM NILAKANTHA COMMENTRY-

ADI PARVA,CHAPTER 188,SLOKA 4,

yat karṇa śalya pramukhaiḥ kshātriyā lokaviśrutaiḥ

SCREENSHOT FROM BOOK- http://bit.ly/1xdSJ2q

TRANSLTION:

Karna,Shalya and other kshatriyas of great might and accomplished in the science of arms could not even string the bow.

SO IT AGAIN PROVES THAT KARNA FAILED

--------------------------------------------------------------

J)PROOFS FROM KM GANGULY'S TRANSLATION-

Proof 1)PLEASE NOTE,SALYA WAS ALSO A KING SO DONT GET CONFUSED HERE
BETWEEN GANDHARI PUTRA KARNA AND RADHEYA

Narrative

Then those princes--Karna, Duryodhana, Salwa, Salya, Aswatthaman, Kratha, Sunitha, Vakra, the ruler of Kalinga and Banga, Pandya, Paundra, the ruler of Videha, the chief of the Yavanas, and many other sons and grandsons of kings,--sovereigns of territories with eyes like lotus-petals,--one after another began to exhibit prowess for (winning) that maiden of unrivalled beauty. Adorned with crowns, garlands, bracelets, and other ornaments, endued with mighty arms, possessed of prowess and vigour and bursting with strength and energy, those princes could not, even in imagination, string that bow of extraordinary stiffness.

---------------

Proof 2)HERE ITS CLEARLY MENTIONED "RADHA'S SON",SO IT HAS TO BE ANGARAAJ

Narrative

And that bow which Rukma, Sunitha, Vakra, Radha's son, Duryodhana, Salya, and many other kings accomplished in the science and practice of arms, could not even with great exertion, string, Arjuna, the son of Indra, that foremost of all persons endued with energy and like unto the younger brother of Indra (Vishnu) in might, strung in the twinkling of an eye.

---------------

Proof 3)THIS NARRATIVE PROVES THAT NO ONE SUCCEEDED IN STRINGING THE BOW BEFORE ARJUNA

Narative

Ye Brahmanas, how can a Brahmana stripling unpractised in arms and weak in strength, string that bow which such celebrated Kshatriyas as Salya and others endued with might and accomplished in the science and practice of arms could not?

SO EVEN AS PER KMG,THERE ARE PROOFS TO JUSTIFY THAT KARNA FAILED,PERHAPS KM GANGULY DID NOT ADD THE FOOTNOTE STATING THAT KARNA FAILED IN STRINGING THE BOW(WHICH IS ADDED IN GEETA PRESS EDITION)

---------------------------------------------------------------

K)PC ROY'S TRANSLATION -

Just like KMG Translation,as per PC Roy's Translation also, three extracts say that Karna Failed, while one says that he failed. So it can again be saftely concluded that Karna failed.

WRITTEN THAT RADHA'S SON FAILED-

Narrative: (Page 426)

And that bow which Rukma, Sunitha,
Vakra, Radha's son, Duryyodhana, Salya, and many other kings
accomplished in the science and practice of arms, could not even with
great exertion, string, Arjuna the son of Indra that foremost of all persons endued with energy and like unto the younger brother
of Indra ( Vishnu ) in might, stringed in the twinkling of an eye

PROVES THAT NO ONE SUCCEEDED IN TASK BEFORE ARJUNA-

Narrative:(Page 425)

'Ye Brahmanas, how can a Brahmana
stripling unpractised in arms and weak in strength, string that bow
which such celebrated Kshatriyas as Salya and others endued with
might and accomplished in the science and practice of arms could not"

KARNA'S NAME LISTED AMOUNG THE ONES WHO FAILED-

Narrative:(Page 424)

Then those princes Kama, Duryyodhanay,
Salwa, Salya, Aswathama, Kratha, Sunitha, Vakra, the ruler
of Kalinga and Banga, Pandya, Paundra, the ruler of Videha, the chief
of Yavanas, and many other sons and grandsons of kings, sovereigns
of territories with eyes like lotus-petals, one after another began to exhibit prowess for (winning) that maiden of unrivalled beauty.
Adorned with crowns, garlands, bracelets, and other ornaments, endued
with mighty arms, possessed of prowess and vigour and bursting with
strength and energy, those princes could not, even in imagination, string
that bow of extraordinary stiffness.

--------------------------------

L)M.N. DUTTA'S PROSE ENGLISH TRANSLATION-

This translation is also based on the Bengali Script of Mahabharat, but M.N. Dutta has Clarified that Radha's Son who failed is Karna.

CLEARLY WRITTEN BY M.N. DUTTA THAT RADHA'S SON KARNA FAILED-

Narrative:

19.The bow which Rukma, Sunita, Vakra, Radha's Son (Karna), Duryodhan,Salya, and many other kings, accomplished in the science and practice of arms, could not string, even with great exertion, was stringed within the twinkling of an eye,

20.By Arjuna, the Son of Indra, that foremost of all powerful men

SO IT PROVES THAT RADHA'S SON WAS KARNA WHO FAILED

-------------------------------

M)BHARATAMALA SUMMARY (MALYALAM VERSION)

THIS SUMMARY IS WRITTEN IN 15th CENTURY,EVEN AS PER THIS SUMMARY KARNA FAILED IN SWAYAMWAR ALONG WITH JARASANDHA,SISHUPAL AND SALYA.

Just For Info: KMG was translated in the 18th century from a script of 16th century, but Bharatmala is of 15th century

-------------------------------

N)H.J RESNICK'S ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Narrative:

Then Karna, the so called son of the chariot driver, roaring and pulling with all his might, came within a hair's breadth of stringing the bow, but the bow threw him violently away. Then every king was filled with fear, for even Karna, renowned in the three worlds for his strength, had been tossed aside by that bow. All the great kings bent down their heads, their eyes unable to even look at the bow. They had no more hope of lifting the bow and winning Draupadi.

-------------------------------

O)SWAMI VIVEKANAND'S VIEW ON DRAUPADI SWAYAMWAR-

-Now, there came kings and princes from different parts of India, all anxious to win the hand of the princess, and one after another they tried their skill, and every one of them failed to hit the mark.

-When all those princes failed in hitting the mark, then the son of King Drupada rose up in the midst of the court and said: “The Kshatriya, the king caste has failed; now the contest is open to the other castes. Let a Brahmana, even a Shudra, take part in it; whosoever hits the mark, marries Draupadi.”

-Among the Brahmanas were seated the five Pandava brothers. Arjuna, the third brother, was the hero of the bow. He lifted the bow in his hand, strung it without any effort, and drawing it, sent the arrow right through the wheel and hit the eye of the fish.

AS YOU ALL CAN READ,SWAMI VIVEKANAND CLEARLY MENTIONS DRUPAD ANNOUNCING THAT A BRAHMIN OR EVEN A SHUDRA CAN TAKE PART IN THE SWAYAMWAR,SO ITS VERY MUCH IMPRACTICAL THAT KARNA WOULD BE STOPPED FROM TAKING PART.

NOWHERE DOES HE MENTION KARNA'S SUCCESS OR DRAUPADI STOPPING HIM BY CALLING HIM A SUTPUTRA.

---------------------------------------------------------------

P)OPINION OF PROF. VEERANARAYANA PANDURANGI-

"First Shishupala tried and failed. Then, Jarasandha, Shalya tried and failed. In the case of Karna a ticklish point is raised.

According to North India recession of Mahabharatha Draupadi remarked that “Naham Variyam Sutham” I do not like to marry a charioteer.

On the other hand when Arjuna asks Dhristadyumna whether a Brahmana can participate in the svayamwara contest, Dhristadyumna replies that “Brahmano Vatha Rajanyo Vaishyo va shudra aeva va?”

Whether one is Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya or Shudra if he can wield the bow and hit the mark, I shall give my sister.

From this it is clear that Karna lost the chance by his incapacity bit not on the ground of his caste. The North Indian version seems to be interpolation."

PROF. PANDURANGI'S STATEMENTS ALSO SUPPORT THE FACT THAT KARNA FAILED IN DRUAPADI SWAYAMWARA,HE WAS NOT STOPPED.

Prof. Pandurangi is the HOD Sanskrit Bangalore University. He was awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Award for Sanskrit by Pratibha Patil, the then President of India, for the year 2011.He has translated MBTN in english,of which i gave the link above.

Q)BIBEK DEBROY'S TRANSLATION OF CRITICAL EDITION-

PROVES THAT KARNA CAME TO DRAUPADI SWAYAMWARA-

Volume 1,Page 845

“Dhrishtadyumna said, “Duryodhana, Durvisaha, Durmukha, Dushpradharshana, Vivimshati, Vikarna, Saha, Duhshasana, Sama, Yuyutsu, Vatavega, Bhimavegadhara, Ugrayudha, Balaki, Kanakayu, Virochana, Sukundula, Chitrasena, Suvarcha, Kanakadhvaja, Nandaka, Bahushali, Kunduja and Vikata—these and others are the immensely powerful sons of Dhritarashtra. These warriors have come with #Karna for your hand.”

Nowhere does draupadi stop him, nothing like this is written in this Book.

PROVES THAT KARNA FAILED IN THE TASK-

Volume 1,Page 850

“O Brahmanas! If Kshatriyas like Karna and Shalya, who are famous in the world, have great strength and are well versed in Dhanur Veda,22 could not string the bow, how can this weakling Brahmana, with no knowledge of weapons, succeed?”

----------------------------------------------------------------

SO THESE SEVENTEEN DIFFERENT SOURCES OF MAHABHARAT ARE ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY THAT KARNA FAILED IN DRAUPADI SWYAMWAR AND SHE DIDN'T STOPPED HIM CALLING 'SUTAPUTRA'

---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------

PART 2)KARNA'S FAILURE AT LAKSHMANA'S SWAYAMVAR.

NOTE- "SHREE LAKSHAMANA" WAS ONE OF THE 8 PRIMARY WIFES OF LORD KRISHNA.

In Shrimad Bhagvatam, there was a moment when Krishna's eight wives met Draupadi & each of them described how Lord Krishna married them. One of them called Lakshmana;described about her swayamvara in which she was won by Krishna.Lakshaman's swayamvara was much difficult compared to Draupadi's because the target was completely hidden unlike Draupadi' swayamvara where the target was predefined as "the eye of fish"!The same passage states that Karna failed to even find & locate the target. Arjuna did hit the target but Lord Krishna (being the Lord Of Universe & having magical powers) hit the target more cleaner & accurately, this clearly prooves Arjuna was far better in archery than Karna.Read what Lakhmana (One of the 8 primary wifes of Lord Krishna) describes about her swayamvara to Draupadi:

(Remember "Shrimad Bhagvatam" is the most important holy scruptures of Hindus after Bhagvad Gita) & one of the most reverred texts of Hindu Mythology!!)

Source-Shrimad Bhagvatam

Chapter-10

Verse-83

Narrative:

S'rî Lakshmanâ said: 'O Queen, time and again hearing Nârada glorifying Acyuta's births and activities became my heart fixed upon Mukunda, He who after due consideration in rejection of the rulers of the world, indeed was chosen by her [the goddess S'rî] holding the lotus. (18) My father known as Brihatsena, o saintly lady, knowing of my state of mind arranged out of his love for his daughter a means to this end. (19) Just as in your svayamvara, o Queen, was a fish used [hung high as a target] that had to be won by Arjuna. Hidden from sight however, could it only be seen as a reflection in water [in a pot below]. (20) Hearing about this came from everywhere all the kings expert in the art of shooting arrows and wielding other weapons to my father's city along with their thousands of teachers. (21) My father honored all of them in full, each according his strength and age, after which they who had set their minds upon me in the assembly took up their bow and arrow to take a shot. (22) Some of them after lifting [the bow] were unable to string it and some having pulled the bowstring failed because they were hit by it. (23) Other heroes, the kings of Magadha [Jarâsandha], Cedi [S'is'upâla] and Ambashthha as well as Bhîma, Duryodhana and Karna, managed to string the bow but couldn't determine the target's location. (24) Arjuna did manage to locate it and took, as he aimed carefully while looking at the reflection of the fish in the water, a shot, but the arrow didn't hit the target, it brushed it only. (25-26) When the kings defeated in their pride had given up, managed the Supreme Lord, playfully taking up the bow, stringing it and then fixing an arrow on it, to pierce with a single look in the water the fish with His arrow at the moment the sun was situated in Abhijit [in 'victory', or at noon]. (27) Kettledrums resounded in the sky together with the sounds of 'jaya' of the godly on earth who overwhelmed by joy released torrents of flowers.'

Conclusion-Now this passage clearly states that in Lakshamana's Swayamvara (Which was a bit tougher than Draupadi's Swayamvara),Karna was not even able to identify & locate the target.Arjuna on the other hand, was able to lift & string the bow as well as identify & locate the target & his arrows was able to graze the target but Lord Krishna being the lord of universe & having divine powers was able to hit the target accurately.

Now the result is crystal clear that in archery:

Lord Krishna > Arjuna > Karna

(LORD KARNA EVEN FAILED TO LOCATE THE TARGET)

-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------

PART 3)KARNA DEFEATED IN SWYAMWAR OF KALINGA PRINCESS

KING OF KALINGA,SUVAJRA ORGANISED A SWAYAMWAR FOR HIS DAUGHTER,BUT THE EVIL WRETCH DURYODHAN KIDNAPPED HER.
SUVAJRA WITH JARASANDHA DEFEATED DURYODHAN AND KARNA,LIKE ALWAYS,LORD KARNA RAN AWAY,AND DURYODHAN WAS CAPTURED BY SUVAJRA.

LATER BHIMA,ON THE REQUEST BHISHMA,DHRITRASHTRA AND VIDURA DEFEATED JARASANDHA,KILLED SUVAJRA AND GOT THE KAURAVAS RELEASED.
KAURAVAS RETURED TO HASTINAPUR AND KARNA WHO HAD FLED ALSO JOINED HIM.

RESULT-LORD KARNA AGAIN DEFEATED AND FLED

SOURCE-Madhavacharya Commentry

-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSIONS

-KARNA FAILED IN DRAUPADI SWYAMWAR,HE WAS NOT REJECTED BEING CALLED A SUTAPUTRA(PROVED FROM FIVE MOST AUTHENTIC AND POPULAR VERSIONS OF MAHABHARAT)

-KARNA ALSO FAILED MISERABLY IN LAKSHAMANA SWYAMWAR

-KARNA WAS ALSO DEFEATED IN THE SWAYAMWAR OF THE KALINGA PRINCESS
