Not only to Krishna, but also to Bhishma and
Drona Arjuna was the dearest among all five
Pandavas. That's precisely the reason he was
the one who was most reluctant to fight
against them in kurukshetra. The relationship
between Bhishma and Arjuna had been so
cute. Arjuna recalled a particular incident of
his childhood which depicts a strong bond
between the two. Arjuna always took refuge
in his grand father's lap whenever Bhima
used to chase him for stealing his food. One
such time when Arjuna sat on his lap he
called him father sorry I have spoiled your
white clothing. Bhishma replied smilingly I am
not your father but your father's uncle .
Bhishma used to care about Arjuna more
than anyone.
That's why when he happened to fight with
Bhishma in the war he used to say I used to
dirt his clothing but he never chided me for
that. Now how will I be able to hurl arrows
on him causing him pain. Even during that
painful tenth day of war Bhishma picking up
the arrows pierced a over his body said these
were not Shikandi's arrows. These are my
grandson Arjuna's arrows. Even the pride for
killing him he wanted to be with Partha.
Arjun liberated him by making him lie on
arrow bed. Imagine the type of pain it would
have caused Arjuna seeing his arrows
afflicting his grand pa who he loved the most.
When Bhishma said his head is hanging with
out support Duryodhana ordered pillows to
come but Bhishma refused them and saw
Arjuna. Being a true grandson he understood
Bhishma and without him even asking put
two arrows to have his head supported. Then
Bhishma when he asked for water to quench
his thirst again he looked at Arjun only.
Arjuna just with an arrow pierced the ground
to bring Ganga himself thereby uniting her
with his son.
Arjuna's life was everything for him who was
otherwise secluded and often doubted by his
other grandson Duryodhana and even
degraded by outsiders like Karna. For a
person like Bhishma who had no kids having
observed celibacy it was his love for Pandavas
especially Arjuna which always accompanied
him.
