BORI or Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute's critical edition is the most researched edition of Mahabharat available. It has been written after a research from more than thousands manuscripts of mahabharat.
People who call BORI CE fake and comedy book are the biggest idiots on the Planet. For those illiterates ,let me tell them the meaning of 'Critical Edition' first-
'Critical Edition' or 'Textual criticism' is the branch of textual scholarship that is concerned with the identification and removal of errors in both 'Manuscripts' and 'Printed Books'.
Ancient scribes made errors or alterations when copying manuscripts by hand,The ultimate objective of the textual critic's work is the production of a "critical edition" containing a text most closely approximating the original.
The aim of a critical edition is to remove interpolations,so calling it fake is just stupidity.
The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute has referred from #1259 #Manuscripts and took about 50 years to complete, with ample of research. So calling an edition fake and comedy book which is made after research from thousands of manuscripts is just Idiotic.
We mainly have two recensions of Vaisampanya Mahabharata
-Northern Recension
-Southern Recension or Dakshinatya
The Most famous Scripts on which Northern Recension is based- Kashmiri or Sarada script,Nepali script or Bhujinmol,Mithali Script,Bengali Script,Devanagri Script.
Dakshinatya is based on three linguistic scripts.
The Critical edition was the critical edition for the Northern recension. A unified North and South Critical edition will wait another day.

POPULAR INTERPOLATIONS REMOVED BY BORI -
Interpolation 1: Naham Vareyami Sutam(Draupadi’s statement to Karna at swvyamvara)
It is found in three of 21 Devanagari manuscripts, in the commentary also it is noted to be a false interpolation, it does not appear in any sanskript script editions of Maithili, Nepali, Sarada. It does not appear in any Southern script version as well. It seems to have been born in one of the local language folk Mahabharatas and found its way in 3 of 21 Devanagari editions somehow.
Interpolation 2: Draupadi’s 11 sloka prayer to Krishna at Dyuta Sabha.

IN 1966, the Critical edition was finally completed and rereleased with great fan fare. It became one of the seminal moments in Indian publishing history and the research on Indian texts. This research started way back in 1818 by Colonel Todd, picked up by Godfrey Higgins, Pargiter, Pali society and finally the Bhandarkar institute which created this baseline edition. Inspired by this and other parallel efforts, Osmania came out with Critical edition for Andhra Mahabharata and similar texts. Now, many of Indian religious and secular ancient texts are available in critical editions thanks to these efforts.
One of the most glaring public accusations and attacks on the critical edition was the role of Krishna. The decisive moment of the Epic was the Dyuta and assault on Draupadi. To all the people out there who try to prove that this assault did not take place, I have nothing further to say. There are enough evidences to the guilt of Kauravas especially Karna, Dushasana and Duryodhana as well as Dhritrashtra in this matter.
The controversy in 1966 which arose was that who was the savior? The powerful force which inserted oneself between the assailant and the victim, that force is called Dharma in the critical edition.
IT was DHARMA who saved Draupadi.
This sentence was the one attacked by the faithful, the worshippers, and the lay. They felt it demoted and insulted their beloved Krishna.
But though dhai akshar prem ka , padhe so pandit hoye, these scholars missed the truth of Kabir’s missive.
As the crescendo of the faithful continued to reverberate, several scholars came together to put together a commemoration volume of papers thanking the efforts of Bhandarkar group. I quote from the papers of Swami Sidhhinathananda who changed his mind after careful introspection.
He followed the evidence from Vyasa himself.
Vyasa started Adi Parva chapter 62 with a quote jayo nametihaso yam srotavyo Vijigisuna
Those who desire Vijaya, please listen to this history called Jaya.
He ends with in Swrgahorana Parva as Jayo nametihaso yam srotavyo jayamichhataa
Those who desire Jaya, they have heard this history called Jaya.
Jaya is a revelation through this work beyond the encapsulation of Time or a single event. It is not mere victory on battlefield. It is the “VICTORY” or Jaya which the listeners want and desire and achieve by its narration.
It is Jaya achievable by all of us. It is Jaya in which we all participate.
What is this ultimate message of this Epic? Whose victory is that affects you and me and every one?
Dharma eva hato hanti, Dharmo Raksati Rakshitah
Tasmad dharmama na tyajami ma no dharmo hatotvadhit
As Yudhishthara said If Dharma is sacrificed, he that sacrifices it, is himself lost. So Dharma also cherishes the cherisher.
Therefore taking care that Dharma by being sacrificed may not sacrifice
us,
I never forsake Dharma!
As Kunti moves to forest at fag end of a long life She tells the Dharma she manifested on this earth that
dharma te sthiyatam. buddhirmanastu mahadastu te
If your mind is steeped in righteousness (Dharma), it is the Beautiful Mind.
In Santi Parva, Bheeshma kicks on a lecture starting with bowing to dharma and Krishna
namo dharmaya mahate namah. krishnaya vedhase
Bowing to Dharma who is supreme, unto Krishna who is Dharma in full
Poet also says YATO DHARMASTATO JAYAH
Where Dharma is Jaya is
And Yatah Krishnastato JAYAH
Where Krishna is Jaya is
Dharma is Krishna. Krishna is Dharma. Sri Krishna is embodiment of Dharma. They are advaita.
Gandhari shouts to Duryodhana
Srnu mudha vaomahyam yato dharmastato jayah
Listen o Fool to my words, Jaya is where Dharma is
Mahabharata is the encompassing victory of Lord, the embodiment of Dharma

For the growth of praja (US) have these percepts of morality been declared. That which is connected
with inoffensiveness is religion. Dharma protects and preserves the people. So it is the conclusions of scholars that WHAT MAINTAINS ETERNAL is DHARMA

There is no kingdom nor any king! No criminal nor any judge to give the penalty to the criminal!! All the people protect each other by the virtue of Dharma
Dharma is Vishnu, Vishnu is Krishna, Krishna is Dharma
ReRead the line in critical edition
IT was DHARMA who saved Draupadi.
as
IT was KRISHNA who saved Draupadi.
I don’t see any issue, do you.
प्रदोषे दीपकश्चंद्र: प्रभाते दीपको रवि: |
त्रैलोक्ये दीपको धर्म: सुपुत्र: कुलदीपक: ||
Moon is a lamp in the evening. Sun is a lamp in the morning. Dharma is a lamp in all the three lokas, It is the correct path leading us lighting our way from Darkness to Light. That is what God is.

Knowledge is (your) friend in the journey, wife is the friend at home, medicine is (like) friend in illness and Dharma is the only friend and shelter after death.
Interpolation 3: The Sudarshana Chakra and Jayadratha
MANY OTHER INTERPOLATIONS HAVE ALSO BEEN REMOVED BY BORI.
WHY KARNA FANS DON'T LIKE BORI CRITICAL EDITION AND THEY CLAIM IT TO BE COMEDY BOOK -
Karna fans don't like this because a lot of slokas related to Karna have been removed in this edition. But the fact is,all those slokas were interpolations.BORI has referred thousands of Manuscripts, those slokas must be present only in few manuscripts and were not there in others or perhaps they had some contradictory slokas in other manuscripts. This is the reason why those slokas got removed.
The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute does not have any person enmity with Karna.Neither they have time to waste on characters like Karna to remove all slokas favoring him.Their attempt is to make an error free edition, like the name suggests 'Critical Edition'.
Karna is indeed an over glorified warrior, several have tried to over glorify him, that's why he is the one who has a world record of folklores against his name . But the BORI CE removed all those folklores.
Now before ignorant Karna fans again claim BORI fake,i would remind them that BORI has no personal enmity with Karna. An edition made using 1259 manuscripts and 50 years of research cannot be fake.
KMG,GEETA PRESS AND BORI CRITICAL EDTION SOURCES-
-KMG has been translated from Bengali Manuscript along with reference from Bombay edition and some reference from Neelkantha Commentary also.
-Geeta Press is based on Central Indian devanagari script, they also used few other devanagri editions including Kashmiri sarada script. They also used Dakshinatya and Neelkantha slokas.
-BORI CRITICAL used all the sources used by KMG and Geeta Press, apart from this,it also used thousand other manuscripts and commentaries as well, took 50 years to complete .
AUTHENTICITY OF CRITICAL EDITION-
Critical Edition is the choice of scholars, its made after research from thousands of manuscripts so obviously it would be free from Social,Cultural and Religious interpolations.
Although ‘critical edition’ itself means ‘most researched’ Still I would list some links and recognitions about BORI Critical-

Removing the slokas itself proves a point that Bori CE is fake book. What a evil work
ReplyDeleteVirata parva and Anushasana Parava were not present in manuscripts of 2nd century BC so why Bori didn't remove those Parvas from his shityy ass book
The Bhagavad gita parva is also later addition to existing Mahabharata epic , Did Bori chutiya removed that from his lame ass shitty ass book
There is no contradictory verses about Karna , What did you Bori bastards achieved by this ? Your so called your Mahanayak Arjuna was killed by his own son Babruhwahana in a battle and was resurrected and saved by Shri Krishna again. Bori is a comedy book absolutely because it says everyone knew Karna was a Kshatriya during Draupadhi Swayamwar and also says that Karna was never denied of Archery education ,Bori not only removed the slokas but changed the Entire story
